Welcome back to The Village! Wishing you a wonderful season.
Your Association Officers are:
· President: Helayne Lightstone, 76 South St.
· Treasurer: Valarie Whitehead, 61 East St.
· Secretary: Angela DiMichele Solak, 60 South St.
Please note: All of the officers are up for re-election, and the elections are scheduled for our meeting the weekend Sunday, July 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the field, same time Monday if it rains. Shelly Kenneson has stepped down as vice-president due to work commitments, and Cindy Dobrynski of First St. has agreed to assume that office. This is the slate that we will be presenting, along with any nominations during the meeting.
Important Meeting Presentation on plans for park at the old Griswold Airport In addition to our elections and other Association business, please make sure to attend the July 3 meeting . We will have a guest sharing plans for the proposed Griswold Airport park, which will include soccer fields. We will also have an opportunity to provide input into parts of the plan design. Don’t miss it. We should take advantage of this opportunity to have our voices heard.
Village Dues are due
If you haven’t yet paid your 2011 dues to the Dud’s Village Association, please do so. You can drop your $30 check with any of the officers above. Membership in the Association is important! We need 51% of cottage owners to belong to the Association to protect our right of first refusal on purchasing the land. Your dues also fund the parade and party in the field on Labor Day weekend. Pay early, as dues go up to $35 after the July 4th weekend. Also, please complete the info form. We do it every year so our info is up to date.
The Village is online, and active!
If you haven’t visited our Dud’s Village Facebook page, you are missing out. With 85 members already, it is full of photos, comments, and other info about our little village, and it’s a great way to stay in touch with—or even get to know—your neighbors in the Village. And don’t forget our wonderful web page, www.dudsvillage.weebly.com . It contains lots of useful information. Darren McDonald is the web master.
President’s Message by Helayne Lightstone
I always love returning to the Village each spring, and can’t wait for the water to be turned on so I can spend time here. Like many other villagers, I take a drive down during the off season to check on my cottage, and the Village in general. And somehow, our little cottages survive, relatively intact, despite the massive snow storms, the relentless spring rains, and the violent storms that swirl around us. Sure, our pipes leak once in awhile, or we suffer some wind damage, but all in all, our little summer homes are stronger than they appear, and welcome us back to the shoreline each season. Even the silk flowers in the tree stumps by the exit survived the wild winter, and look as vibrant as they did in the fall.
And each year, we have more to be proud of in our Village. So many cottages have been renovated and reborn after they were adopted by new owners or given facelifts by those who have lived in them, and loved them, for years. Take a walk around the Village, and see all the lovely homes and beautiful landscaping. Village people are proud of their cottages, and it shows. And one by one the few remaining eyesores are giving way to sweet little summer homes for some lucky families. Please welcome our new neighbors, and let me or another Association officer know when someone new arrives so we can share our information packet and membership application. And as always, remember we are all here to have a good time and create summer memories that our families can cherish for a lifetime. Be a good neighbor—keep the noise down, pick up after your pets, use the paved roads not the dirt roads, and drive slowly so our kids have a safe place to play. And if someone forgets to do so, as can happen occasionally, a gentle and respectful reminder may work wonders. We all love our little Village, and want to make it a warm and welcoming place for everyone. Enjoy the season and pray for sun!
Book shed open for your summer reading pleasure
